To converse with the greats

By Vera Pavlova

I have to admit I’m struggling to understand this poem we were given in class, but my interpretation is about making your own experiences and interpreting them yourself (“to correspond with books/by rewriting them”) rather than accepting everything as truth in order to gain knowledge. And doing so will relieve us from the “solitary confinement of the universe” in other words, become independent thinkers.

I believe what makes humans extraordinary is the fact that we can progress and grow. This poem is just an explanation of how we learn– through our own experiences.
